The procedure for obtaining an adherence assessment can be done in two ways; with or without supervision. It is recommended to achieve this within a supervision process, embedded in a customized development process, in order to apply the Dialectical Behavior Therapy model with an adherence assessment as effectively as possible.
Assessment procedure (with supervision process)
- At the start of the supervision, a recording of an individual DBT therapy session must be submitted with a verbatim report of the entire recording. Please include a signed statement of consent from the client and therapist.
- The supervisor will assess the recording by means of the Adherence coding scale. Recordings above an Adherence coding 4.0 are considered as true to the DBT model.
- In supervision, the assessment will be reviewed. Points for improvement towards the implementation of the DBT model will be discussed.
- If two recordings are rated by the supervisor above the Adherence coding of 4.0, both recordings will be sent to a second reviewer who will do the Expert Review for one of the two recordings.
- The first assesor takes the expert assessment into account in the final score and integrates it into the feedback. Only recordings above an Adherence coding 4.0 are considered as true to the DBT model.
- The first assessor provides a report containing the adherence score, including strengths and points for improvement, and will give feedback in supervision.
